In a split second, a loud boom and a bright flash. Just shortly after that the Fisher family knew it was time to get out.
Rod Fischer – Home Struck by Lightning: "It was pretty interesting, yeah."
A single bolt of lightning forced the Fischer family of 4 out of their home. It struck around 10 last night and caused wiring in the ceiling to catch fire.
Rod Fischer: "We kept saying it smells like smoke kind of. So we went back in the back entry way there and it did smell a little like smoke and my son called 911."
Because there is no attic in their home, fire crews had to tear a huge portion of the ceiling out to water down the smoldering wires and insulation. On the outside barely anything from the strike can be seen. Just a small circle of smoke damage and the faint smell of smoke is the only thing that alerted the Fischers anything was wrong.
Rod Fischer: "You always see it around you, but you don't actually think its going to happen to your house."
One lucky family safe tonight after an unlucky strike of lighting to their home. Damage is estimated at a few thousand dollars.
