Vikings Sign their Rookie Class

MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings have signed all of their rookie class in time for start of training camp, including first-round draft pick Christian Ponder.

The Vikings announced the moves on Sunday as players started to trickle into training camp at Minnesota State University-Mankato.

Ponder will serve as the backup to newly signed free agent quarterback Donovan McNabb.

Ponder was the 12th overall pick out of Florida State. The initial plan was for him to take over as quarterback right away, but the summer-long lockout prevented him working with coaches and teammates to prepare for the first game of the season at San Diego on Sept. 11.

So the Vikings sent two sixth-round draft picks Washington to acquire the veteran McNabb.

The Vikings start practicing on Monday.
