LISBON, N.D. – A Lisbon man riding a homemade three-wheeled motorcycle was airlifted to a Fargo hospital with serious injuries after he collided with a trailer being pulled by a pickup, the North Dakota Highway Patrol said.

The crash was reported at 10:50 a.m. Thursday on Highway 27 in Ransom County.

According to a news release from the patrol:

The motorcyclist, 55-year-old Marlin Gumke, was following the pickup westbound on Highway 27 when the pickup slowed down and attempted to turn into an approach on the south side of the highway. Gumke was trying to pass the pickup at the same time. He swerved to try to miss the trailer but hit it from behind.

Gumke was separated from the bike and came to rest in the westbound lane of the highway. He was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo with serious injuries.

The pickup’s driver wasn’t hurt.

The crash remains under investigation.
