MSUM isn't wasting time planning to spend millions of dollars approved in a bonding bill by state lawmakers during the government shutdown. The school is getting nearly $16 million. $14.9 million of that will be used to renovate the library. The university started using other funds to slowly remodel the building back in 2008. Now, it will gut the interior, put in new ventilation, and improve technology. Construction is expected to start next winter and be done in about two years.
Jeff Goebel – MSUM Physical Plant Manager: “It'll really modify our library tremendously. It'll really become a different kind of place, a place for collaborative learning and we've already entered into discussions with a design firm to finish design work to get all those details right.”
MSUM got $830,000 for a new roof on Bridges Hall and a boiler system. This is the second time the school has tried to get these funds.
