The racing landscape has changed in the past decade with more and more females getting involved in the sport. In fact, plenty of women right here in the valley do more than just hold their own on dirt. We head out to Buffalo River Race Park for this week's speedway spotlight.
Talin Tommerdahl – Midwest Modified Driver, Fargo: “first time i tried it i won my first race so that helped a lot. But I don't know I just love it.”
Torey Fischer – Pure Stock Driver, West Fargo: “I like the adrenaline rush and finishing in a good spot makes me feel like I accomplished stuff.”
For Torey Fisher and Taylor Tommerdahl the past driving on dirt began at a young age starting with go karts now in high school the cars have gotten bigger but the passion hasn't changed.
Fischer: “I enjoy it because it gives me something to do on the weekends, keeps me outta trouble I stay busy during the week working on it and I’ve met a lot of people.”
Tommerdahl: “I knew that I wanted to be committed to racing and they knew that I love it so much at first they were kind of asking me if I was sure and I like playing sports but I am committed to this.”
How committed? Tommerdahl is seventh out of 42 drivers in the Midwest Modified Division while Fisher sits fourth in the Pure Stock Class proving these two young ladies aren't afraid to kick up a little dirt.
The races at Buffalo River Race Park start at 6 o'clock and run every Sunday night through the summer.
