The National Weather Services says the tornado that touched down on the Weigel homestead was more powerful than most in our region. Last night's storms spread destruction throughout LaMoure County. It took down tall trees and flattened power poles. Homes were ripped apart, as winds as strong as 165 miles an hour, battered the area. The tornado was around a half-mile wide, and on the ground for 12 miles.

John Martin – National Weather Service: "Tornadoes can move in any direction, speeds vary. Width varies. So we need to be ready in a tornado to get to your basement shelter."

National Weather Service says the storm produced a "high-end" EF three tornado. Winds can range from 130 to 165 miles an hour.
