Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a car accident that killed a 2011 New York Mills High School graduate and injured two others early Sunday morning.
Tyler Vernon Bell, 18, died in the one-vehicle accident. The driver, Daniel Resch, 21, of NY Mills suffered injuries, along with a 15-year-old female passenger, also from NY Mills.
According to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, alcohol was likely a factor. An investigation is underway and charges are pending.
Emergency personnel responded to the crash at the intersection of Hwy 8 and 575th Ave. around 2:15 a.m., according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office.
Bell was transported by Perham Ambulance to the Perham Memorial Hospital.
A Facebook page dedicated to the memory of Bell has been set up. As of Monday morning, more than 450 people had become members of the page.
Bell was the captain of the NY Mills football team and one of two Eagles to be named to the All-Conference team. The lineman also received the Eagle Award and Most Valuable Defensive Player award.
“He always had a smile on his face - he was just a really good kid,” said NY Mills Head Football Coach Matt Radniecki. “That’s what I remember most, was his smile, whether we were behind or ahead.”
The Facebook page, which shows a photo of Bell wearing his NY Mills jersey and holding a football, has 42 comments from friends.
