Tornado touches down southwest of Cooperstown, N.D.

A tornado touched down this afternoon southwest of Cooperstown, N.D., according to the National Weather Service. A tornado warning is in effect until 4:15 p.m. when a storm with tornado potential will be about 20 miles north of Valley City, N.D., moving southeast at about 20 mph.

A tornado touched down near Hannaford, N.D., in Griggs County about 3:16 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service office in Grand Forks.

It said the tornado was on the ground for about two minutes, four miles west of Hannaford, or about 14 miles southwest of Cooperstown.

It was reported by a “stormchaser,” according to the weather service, and the information is preliminary. There was no report of damage or injury.

The weather service said a tornado warning was in effect southeastern Griggs County, northeastern Barnes County and southwestern Steele County in east-central North Dakota until 4:15 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm with the potential to create tornadoes was about 38 miles northwest of Valley City was moving southeast at about 20 mph.

The storm is expected to reach Pillsbury, N.D., which is 20 miles north of Valley City, about 4:15 p.m.
