Crow Wing asks DNR to clarify license policy

BRAINERD, Minn. (AP) — Officials in a northern Minnesota county are calling on state officials to clarify their policy on fishing without a license during the government shutdown.

BRAINERD, Minn. (AP) — Officials in a northern Minnesota county are calling on state officials to clarify their policy on fishing without a license during the government shutdown.

Crow Wing County commissioners passed their resolution Tuesday because of concern about financial losses to lake resorts. The shutdown has meant people can't get fishing licenses.

The Brainerd Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/qsHa7g ) that some callers, including County Attorney Don Ryan, have been told individually that they can fish on the honor system and get a license after the shutdown ends.

The Department of Natural Resources' official policy has been that all its rules apply during the shutdown. The agency's chief conservation officer didn't immediately respond to a phone message or an email from The Associated Press.
