VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) — Valley City Police Chief Dean Ross has been put on paid administrative leave for five days while authorities investigate whether he mismanaged and misspent thousands of dollars of public money.

Mayor Bob Werkhoven and City Administrator Jon Cameron notified Ross on Friday. Werkhoven tells KFGO radio that the decision was made to give investigators time to conduct interviews without employees feeling intimidated.

Ross tells The Associated Press that he has done nothing wrong. He says he has no plans to resign. He says he loves Valley City and hopes the city's residents will continue to support him as chief.
