FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The National Weather Service says a Fourth of July storm that swept through the Red River Valley region spawned at least five tornadoes.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The National Weather Service says a Fourth of July storm that swept through the Red River Valley region spawned at least five tornadoes.

Preliminary survey results indicate the tornadoes touched parts of Cass and Traill counties in North Dakota and Norman and Polk counties in Minnesota.

The Forum newspaper reports that one tornado that tore a roof off a farm near Mapleton in eastern North Dakota was rated an EF-2 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, with winds up to 135 mph. The other tornadoes were rated EF-1 or EF-0, with lesser winds.
