City officials are investigating what they say is financial mismanagement and misappropriation of funds; Basically, putting public funds in unauthorized accounts.
We watched Police chief Dean Ross walk soberly into the meeting room where City Commissioner John Wagar was listing accusations against him. Wagar says Ross has been placing public funds in a Valley City Police Association account and two other accounts, and the city didn't know about it. They say he's also donated money from the sale of public vehicles to "CounterAct," a charity Ross is in charge of. There were many other charges.... including Ross getting rid of evidence.
Jon Wagar – Valley City Commissioner: "City Hall has had numerous, credible reports of late-night, high-volume shredding and removal of files and documents from the Police Department."
Wagar says he's not suggesting the funds were used for personal gain, only that they were mishandled. The North Dakota Bureau of Investigation is looking into these allegations.
