After fear that shutdown would halt deliveries of federally funded food to help people in need, an about face. Great Plains Food Bank delivers products to five pantries in Clay County. The shutdown had stopped shipments of USDA products like meat, fruits, and vegetables to pantries. Statewide, 950 thousand pounds of food were to stay on shelves, not delivered. Ten thousand just at Great Plains.
Joann Matthews – Great Plains Food Bank: “No I've never had this before. I've been here 15 years now. We've never had the government shutdown while I've been here.”
Early this evening, the ruling changed. Food pantries can once again deliver USDA products.
