COOPERSTOWN, N.D. (AP) — The family of a slain North Dakota State University researcher has scheduled a memorial service as authorities continue efforts to find Kurt Johnson's body.

The 54-year-old Cooperstown resident was last seen on New Year's Eve. Authorities say that on Jan. 4 they found his severed head in the home of Daniel Wacht, who has pleaded not guilty to murder.

Johnson's mother, Mary Lou Ueland, tells The Forum newspaper that the family has given up hope that the rest of Johnson's body will be found and they are going ahead with a memorial service. It is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Cooperstown Bible Camp.
