City Commissioners tonight voted unanimously to hire and pay for a Washington, DC based lobbying firm for 6 months. Mayor Dennis Walaker says they need to take action now, to even have a chance of getting into the President's 2013 budget. There is a dispute between the cities and counties involved over funding for the diversion. Moorhead leaders are concerned about signing a financial agreement for the cities 10 percent share of the design phase.
Dave Piepkorn – Fargo Commissioner: “I'm very disappointed with some of the leadership and some of the other government organizations but it's down to us.”
Dennis Walaker – Fargo Mayor: “There are no earmarks anymore people have to understand that if it doesn't go in the president's budget, how is this going to be funded.”
Environmental and storage issues still need to be addressed before the diversion design agreement deadline of August first.
