Velva flood fight continues

Velva, ND (WDAY TV) - An unprecedented amount of water is running into the city of Velva southeast of Minot.

The river has dropped about a half-foot since the Crest Sunday, but the river is running at 28,000 CFS. The city is maintaining the mandatory evacuation order until they feel it is safe. The Corps has been hauling rip-rap for the west side of the river. Plastic is being placed on the edges of the river bank. 1 ton sandbags, like these, are being used to prevent erosion. Only authorized personnel are being allowed into the city of Velva.
