Jurors in murder trial hear of Burcham's confession

Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - Jurors in the Clarence Burcham murder trial spent the day listening to testimony about his inconsistent story to investigators when he was questioned about the 1993 murder of Sharon Stafford.

Burcham is on trial for the murder in Clay County. When he was re-questioned in 2009, the 46 year-old from Center, N.D., admitted he got mad when Stafford called him retarded, prompting him to rape, strangle her and try to burn down Stafford's trailer the next morning. The defense plans to argue that Burcham falsely confessed and will cross-examine the detective on Wednesday.
