A school bus and semi collided near Greenbush, MN Tuesday afternoon, causing minor injuries to two people. Authorities say it could have been a lot worse.
The Roseau County Sheriff's Office, Greenbush ambulance and fire department responded to the accident. According to the state patrol, the two vehicles seemed to have received the worst of the accident.
"Some parents came to pick their kids up, and another bus responded," Sylvia Maurstad with the Minnesota State Patrol said.
Maurstad said the bus took high school kids home after what could've been a very serious accident. She says the bus was carrying 12 or 13 student, none received injuries.
Authorities say at 3:22 Tuesday afternoon, a Greenbush Middle River School Bus was following the truck, both headed south on highway 32.
"The semi wanted to make a right on this country road. It swung into the opposite lane to make a wide right turn. The bus continued in it's lane and the semi turned in front of it," Maurstad said.
The accident happened at the intersection of highway 32 and county road 106, just four miles south of Greenbush. 73-year-old Donald Blazek hit the semi, not seeing any turn signals. Blazek was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The semi driver, 24-year-old Jason Guy, was also treated.
"The driver's doing OK. He's being taken in for some x-rays," Maurstad said.
Authorities say the semi truck will be taken to Greenbush to assess the damage.
