NEW ULM, Minn. (AP) — Two construction workers are credited with rescuing several people on inner tubes who were caught on a rapidly rising river near New Ulm.

Police were in the process of shutting down a major road Thursday because of the rising Cottonwood River. Several young adults were tubing in the river, tried to come ashore but were swept downstream past the Cottonwood River bridge. One person lost his tube and another became entangled in brush.

Two employees of a drilling company working nearby noticed the commotion, rushed downstream and jumped into the river to pull the tubers to safety.

KARE-TV (http://bit.ly/mxDg9Q ) identifies the rescuers as Eric White of Rush City and Trevor Christensen of Pine City pulled the tubers to safety. No one was seriously injured.
