Changes coming for flood buyout homes

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A change coming for people buying flood buyout homes in Cass County.

Buyers will have to decide what they will do with a house, before it's bought. If they want it for salvage, buyers will have 30 days to get what they want from the home. They also can't destroy or take trees. If buyers plan to move a home, they'll have to pay at least 15 thousand dollars for it. This will help make sure older trees stay, homes don't stay abandoned too long, and there's some return to taxpayers.

KEN PAWLUK - Cass Co. Commissioner: “The county really comes out better with that minimum even if you might sell one or two less homes because you're getting more, you're probably getting more for the other ones because the value is certainly there, it's just the lack of bidders.”

The last buyout home, for now, will be up for auction next Tuesday.
