Horace daycare adapts to water outageHorace, ND (WDAY TV) - A water main break left Horace homeowners high and dry, and wondering when the water would come back on. It's a headache for anyone, but imagine if you run a daycare with 70-children!
Katie Weibye is slicing sandwiches for lunch at Little Tykes Day Care on the north side of Horace. She's got a lot on her plate, serving lunch to 70 kids, but there's something that's making her cheese sandwich lunch a little more complicated.
KATIE WEIBYE - Little Tykes Day Care: "We heard there was a water main break, and that they were turning the water off."
Water for caring for the kids.
Katie Weibye: "I panicked at first. I gotta make sure they can wash their hands and flush the toilets."
Katie has to keep the kids hydrated on a hot day. So she filled 70 water bottles, one for each kid, and 8 more gallon jugs. That's extra work on an already busy day. In Katie's field, you gotta be ready for anything.
Katie Weibye: "We can't just go and close. These parents have to work."
But Katie's playing it cool, so the kids can keep calm.
Katie Weibye: "They really react to how you are acting. So if I stay calm, and the staff stays calm, they take their ques from us."
The water's out, but in Katie's line of work, she can't waste her time worrying. After all, the bread won't butter itself. The water just came back on in Horace tonight. The community was without it since 10 this morning.
