Oxbow residents facing buyouts from the diversion want break on property taxes

Oxbow, ND (WDAY TV) - Some residents facing possible buyouts as a result of the diversion say they want Cass County to give them an 80-percent break on their property taxes.

Some folks in Oxbow say because of the planned diversion. Their homes have no value and they want an 80-percent reduction in taxable value.

Oxbow would be wiped out by a potential diversion as the community would see between 5 and 8 additional feet of water during a 100-year flood event. Some residents say it's impossible to sell their homes or even get mortgages in the community.

The county commission will weigh in on the idea during a meeting later this month.
