JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) — Officials say construction is wrapping up on a coal-fired power plant near Jamestown.
The Great River Energy Plant in the Spiritwood Industrial Park is expected to begin full operations by 2012. It is expected to produce as much as 99 megawatts of electricity during peak demands.
The plant was originally scheduled to go online in 2010. Company officials tell The Jamestown Sun that the impact of the recession delayed operations.
The plant is Great River Energy's first baseload power plant built since 1981. It will be North Dakota's first coal-fired power plant in a quarter century.
