Wahpeton-Breckenridge becomes massive seller's marketWahpeton, ND (WDAY TV) - The housing market in Wahpeton-Breckenridge has been flipped upside down. For the first time realtors can remember, its became a massive seller's market.
Kaitlyn Johnson is taking us inside her new home she had been looking since August. The area has fewer than normal listings and more buyers than average and she found out as a buyer you need to move fast.
KATLYN NELSON - Home Buyer: "My dad was looking at the brochure everyday and circling these houses he called me up and said a house just came up and we need to go look at it, we did and i put in my bid the very next day."
As a first time homebuyer negotiations didn't go how she invisioned.
"With the market the way it is, there is no negotiating, you basically give them what they want."
DONNA KEOGH - Action Realty: "We opened a house and had 3 bids."
Between Wahpeton and Breckenridge there are about 80 homes on the market, half of those are sell pending. Donna Keogh has been a realtor in Wahpeton for 30 years. This is the first time she has seen more buyers than sellers.
She says developers could clean up if they started building in the area.
"We have some local guys that are going to do some building, I think, I hope. They're talking about it so I hope they do because we need them."
It left no price break for Katlyn, but in this market she says she's ecstatic to be lucky enough to be a buyer with a home. Keogh says buyers are coming from all groups, old, young, from both in town and out of town.
