Storm Victims: Be patient with insurance claimsFargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The storm straight line winds left a trail of destruction, which meant for a busy day for insurance agencies. More on what homeowners can do if they have damage.
Its damage like this that's going to keep insurance companies busy for the coming days, maybe even the coming weeks. Right now agents and adjusters are just asking folks to stay patient.
State Farm agent Jay Bartley says most homeowners insurance policies will cover the damage that came with this storm, including damaged roofs, fences, and garages.
Since most people's damage is minor, they likely will have most the damage taken care of within the price of their deductible.
Homeowners should take inventory of all the damage, take pictures, keep receipts if you need to make immediate repairs, and look around. You may even need to look for damage in your neighbor's yard.
Jay Bartley – State Farm Insurance Agent: “We had a trampoline get blown from my client's house, over a fence, into the neighbors kitchen, thru the kitchen wall, and damage their water line.”
Bartley says he hasn't seen damage this widespread since the hail storm of 2007, but as for Monday night's storm, he says it certainly could have been a lot worse.
