Cool temps holding off mosquito season for now

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Cooler temps are allowing the Cass County Vector Control to get a head start on mosquito season.

Vector Control has already sprayed standing water with about 9-thousand pounds of pesticide. It's on pace to spray as much as they did last year.

Vector Control officials say for those celebrating Memorial Day outside in Cass County, mosquitoes shouldn't be a problem. The bugs should hold off until early June.

BEN PRATHER - CASS COUNTY VECTOR CONTROL: “This year it's been a cool start, we haven't had the high temperatures we had in 2010 so that might be the one difference maker for the early season, but if it’s hot and humid we could see a different situation very quickly.”

Officials still say the best way to avoid mosquito bites is to stock up on repellent and use it often.
