42-year old Joey Tehle's life literally changed overnight at the age of 10, when she got Dystonia. It causes spasms when her muscles contract.
She lost some control of her arms, legs and voice. Joey now uses a computer to communicate. Slowly, her movements have started to come back after going undiagnosed for years.
Before, she couldn't walk 30 feet. Tonight, she walked 3.1 miles, her first 5-k.
Joey Tehle: “Just to prove to myself that I can. I will be proud.”
GARY HANSON - Joey's Uncle: “Joey's journey with this disease has been I mean where she's at at this point to even think about going the three miles is a monumental undertaking.”
Medication, rehabilitation, and therapy have helped Joey regain some control of her muscles.
