City plans to store sandbags outsideFargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Fargo is trying something new this year for storing unused sandbags. Under these tarps are about 1 million of the 1.5 million sandbags the city has left.

Instead of moving them indoors, the city plans to leave them outside. Last year, the city did a trial with some bags outdoors and they were just as good as the indoor ones.
The sand used to make the bags and the black tarps make the outdoor storage possible.
TERRY LUDLUM - Fargo Solid Waste Utilities Manager: “With this good quality washed sand that we used, it just baked the moisture out and when it comes to winter there really wasn't a lot left there to freeze.”
Last year, Fargo spent about 12 thousand dollars a month to store just under a half-million sandbags.
