Fargo man hospitalized after crashing his car into an auto body shop

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A Fargo man will face a laundry list of charges after police say he crashed his car into a North side auto body shop today, causing thousands of dollars in damage. Police say the driver, 22-year old Dylan Johnson of Fargo, was injured and remains hospitalized. Police say Johnson also may have driven into a nearby home a short time earlier. There was no damage to the house.

When the crew from Fargo-Moorhead Custom Collision arrived at work today, there was quite a sight. A Lincoln that was supposed to be in the driveway was now inside the garage.

MIKE WANNER - F-M Custom Collision: “The guy was cruising. He was going really fast. It was hit hard.”

Police say Johnson was driving this 1968 Chevy Nova near the body shop when he lost control, crashing into the Lincoln.

“It was in park.”

Wanner is in the business of fixing crashed cars and he says it is fortunate he worked yesterday, moving two recently finished cars to another stall.

“Yesterday would have been very bad. We kind of got lucky.”

It appears he was in the vehicle sleeping. It did not take long for Fargo police to track down Johnson.

He was injured enough to be brought to the hospital before police could file charges against him. Police say the situation could have been much worse. There are often crews working in the body shop late at night, and police say it appears Johnson also hit a house nearby. People were inside sleeping, but no damage or injuries.

LT. JOEL VETTEL - Fargo Police: “Again, anytime you have someone driving a car and it strikes a home that is an extremely dangerous situation.”

Johnson could face DUI, leaving the scene and property damage charges.
