OSAKIS, Minn. (AP) — Todd County authorities say a 51-year-old Osakis (oh-SAY'-kiss) woman was slain after returning home from lunch and discovering a burglary in her home.

Sheriff Peter Mikkelson says Diane Fortenberry was killed Friday when she came home to let her dog outside. He says her son came home Friday afternoon, found his mother and called 911. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The sheriff wouldn't say Saturday whether she was alive when her son came home, how she was killed or if there was a struggle. But he says items were taken from the home.

No suspects are in custody. Mikkelson is asking for anyone who saw anything unusual to call the sheriff's office.

Fortenberry grew up in the Osakis area. She returned three years ago with her husband and son.
