Moorhead football rivalry on hold

Moorhead, Minn. (WDAY Sports) - It looks like the Red River Valley will be deprived of another great football rivalry. As first reported by the Forum, the Power Bowl between MSU Moorhead and Concordia is off indefinitely.

That's because the Northern Sun will be going to an 11 game league schedule in 2012, the year the two schools had left a date open.

That move means the Dragons have no available dates to play Concordia, a game that hasn't been played since 2007.

Steve Laqua - MSU Moorhead Head Coach: “It's disappointing that we're not gonna have that game. It's been great for both universities, for the Moorhead community especially just to have people rally around that game and be seen locally in the area. A lot of people talk about that game. As a young guy in the area, I watched that game and it's just something that a lot of people watch it's disappointing.”

MSUM Athletic Director Doug Peters told me tonight it feels like a kick in the shins.
