Murder charge filed against father in baby's death
ANOKA, Minn. (AP) — Prosecutors in Anoka County have charged a father from Coon Rapids with second-degree murder in the death of his baby daughter.
ANOKA, Minn. (AP) — Prosecutors in Anoka County have charged a father from Coon Rapids with second-degree murder in the death of his baby daughter.
A criminal complaint filed Tuesday says 25-year-old Joshua Vanhoutan initially denied harming the five-month-old girl, then later at the hospital admitted he shook the baby because she wouldn't calm down. The child was diagnosed with bleeding on the brain May 11 and died four days later.
Vanhoutan was initially charged with assault and malicious punishment of a child. Prosecutors amended those charges after the child died.
