BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota lawmaker says the Legislature should take a closer oversight role of the work of local veterans' service officers.
Dickinson Rep. Shirley Meyer says the Legislature has required the workers to get more training about the programs that are available to veterans.
A study of the training efforts was ordered two years ago, but a legislative committee has decided not to continue the review.
Meyer believes the Legislature should keep continuous oversight of the issue. She says it's important to make sure veterans are aware of benefit programs available to them.
