Early morning crash near Alexandria shuts down I-94 for over two hours

Evansville, Minn. (WDAY TV) - A multi-vehicle crash at 5 this morning shutdown I-94 near Alexandria for more than 2-hours. A westbound semi was rear-ended by another semi. It caused one of the rigs to jack-knife, blocking both lanes of I-94.

A 3rd semi tried to avoid the semi blocking the roadway and overturned in the median. That blocked both lanes of eastbound I-94. A shot time later, a charter bus came upon the scene, but avoided the semis by going in the ditch. The bus was not damaged.

MN State Trooper: “We got significant damage to 3 different semis. Sounds like the injuries are minor. We're fortunate that things weren't more severe, especially when you throw in the combination of the charter bus.”

The driver of the semi that rolled was 59-year old Steve Thordarson of Casselton. His injuries are not believed to be serious. I-94 was back open about 7:30.
