Auto kite spool developers clash in ND court

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A Fargo kite store owner is suing former business partners, saying they swiped an idea for an automatic kite spool.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A Fargo kite store owner is suing former business partners, saying they swiped an idea for an automatic kite spool.

KotiKites and Windsports owner Trevor Ibach is seeking more than $15,000 in damages and a court order naming him as the primary inventor of the Kitoreel.

Defendants are the consulting firm Generation I.D.E.A., Aaron and Nikki Lamb, and Doug Snider. The Forum reports that they say in written responses to the lawsuit that the idea provided by Ibach wasn't all that novel. They say they improved it but clashed with Ibach over compensation. Snider then took initial steps toward a patent.

Judge Wickham Corwin calls it "a fairly complicated mess." He's prevented both sides from working on the device until its inventor can be established.
