School leaders learn about the dangers of child bullying

Moorhead, Minn. (WDAY TV) - School leaders are getting a lesson on how child bullying can lead to more violence, even suicide.

About 40 area educators, police officers, and psychologists came to the Youth Intervention Programs Association meeting in Moorhead. A renowned researcher told the crowd bullying significantly impacts learning, health, and social behavior.

He says more schools need to have programs to stop the growing trend of bullying to improve education and save lives.

DR. JOHN HOOVER - St. Cloud State University: “They'll be measurable increases in learning as students feel safer and safer and there are some long term outcomes for both bullies and victims that I think will be able to make a real difference in society.”

Some ideas: Anger management and empathy training, assertive skills, and friendship making classes for victims.
