We found out today, in a 2 and 1/2 month span the drug task force team spent more than 6 thousand dollars on undercover drug deals. Police say all of this was purchased by police informants: 14 ecstasy pills and 82 prescription pills, more than 175 grams of marijuana, 50 grams of cocaine, and 17 grams of meth.
To give perspective, police say a sugar packet from a restaurant is equivalent to 1 gram. About half of what police spent in buying the drugs has been recovered through the arrests. They say they will eventually get all 6 thousand dollars back.
"We'll start looking at the forfeitures which could include vehicles, precious metals, jewelry anything like that, and then the last thing we can do to recoup some of that money is go through the courts and seek restitution."
Police say some of the people arrested worked in small groups, but this isn't an elaborate drug ring, saying they were dealing relatively small amounts to individuals for personal use. Court documents show some of the alleged dealers were followed to Fargo where they were supplied with the drugs.
16 people have been arrested so far, 15 of them are from Fergus Falls. Police say they're working on 6 more arrests.
