WADENA, Minn. (AP) — U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar will take part in Friday's groundbreaking for a new Wadena-Deer Creek High School, replacing the one destroyed by a tornado last year.

The new school is expected to open its doors to students in fall 2012. It's being built on the same site as the previous one. In the meantime, students have been attending classes at a nearby elementary school and community college.

During Friday's visit, Klobuchar and Wadena Mayor Wayne Wolden also will visit an agricultural co-op that lost a building in the tornado.

The June 17 tornado wiped out more than 200 homes and buildings in Wadena. Minnesota was hit by 48 tornadoes that day, a one-day record in the state. Three people were killed in the storms.
