WDAY 6 Sports has learned that Oakes native and NDSU Hall of Famer Phil Hansen will have his name go up on the Bills Wall of Fame next season.
Hansen starred for 10 seasons in Buffalo, racking up 61 and a half career sacks, and ranking 3rd in team history. He was a 2nd round pick by the Bills in 1991 and now joins football hall of famers Bruce Smith and Jim Kelly who also have their names on the wall.
“There's an older gentleman on the line telling me this so I quick looked down on the caller ID and to make sure it wasn't a crank phone call, but it was our team owner and he laughed a little bit and I really recognized his laugh and a had a light hearted moment. But I was in shock, I didn’t expect this, but this is certainly quite an honor.”
The ceremony will take place at halftime of one of the Bills’ home games next season. Hansen was inducted into the Bison Hall of Fame in 2005.
