Cold weekend almost sets a record

Grand Forks, ND (WDAY TV) - Over the course of this past winter, we don't seem to be as phased by Mother Nature’s curveballs anymore, but this weekend's snow still managed to shock us.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, the last time the area saw an inch of snow in May was in 1946. Meteorologists say it is uncommon but not unheard of to see snow into mid-May. Temperatures in Grand Forks this weekend were also close to setting a record.

DAVE KELLENBENZ - NWS Meteorologist: “Definitely like I said rare to get snow this late. Also, the temperatures today are near record values for high temperatures. The record low maximum temperature for today May 1st is 34 degrees and currently our high has been 32 degrees.”

Despite those temperatures, the snow should melt away over the next day or two.
