BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A former executive for the Tesoro Corp. oil company has been named as the new director of the North Dakota Commerce Department.
Alan Anderson starts the job next week. He was the manager of Tesoro's oil refinery near Mandan for six years. He was a vice president for development at Tesoro before retiring from the company last year.
Anderson succeeds Shane Goettle (GET'-uhl). Goettle left the job to join the staff of new Republican U.S. Sen. John Hoeven.
Anderson is a native of Underwood. He holds degrees in geological engineering and business administration. He's a former chairman of the North Dakota Petroleum Council.
The Commerce Department promotes business development and tourism. It has a two-year budget of $130 million and about 70 employees.
