Oxbow avoiding the flood headlines this time aroundOxbow, ND (WDAY TV) - If you've been following coverage from this historic flood, you may have noticed something missing. We haven't heard much from Oxbow, a town that has been beaten up by past flooding, now isn't even taking a punch.
Making your way to Oxbow from Fargo, you'll find roads closed, water continuing to swallow up fields, but when you get into town, its couples out walking people getting along like nothing is happening.
It's hard to imagine this was the sight just two years ago. Oxbow was the headliner, the town wiped out by the river.
Since, homes have been bought out, permanent dikes placed throughout town, and so far this year the city has not had 1 issue from flooding. Things are so good, the golf course is opening this weekend, the first six holes are under water but the other twelve will be good to go.
JIM NYHOFF- Oxbow Mayor: “Boy we could of gone another 2, 3 feet without any real issues to the city. Certainly the golf course had some water on it, but that wasn't our goal in the first stage of this thing. Our goal was to protect the city the first time around.”
Nyhoff says in another 2 years the city could dike and protect those first six holes that are under water.
