New Rockford tackles rising James River

NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. (AP) — Dozens of volunteers turned out Sunday to fill and place sandbags after a sudden rise in the James River at New Rockford.

Mayor Jim Belquist said an ice jam that was compounding the problem was beginning to break up.

He said crews were sandbagging to protect a few homes and to reinforce a road, and that the threat was starting to ease by late morning.
