Clay County Chase Ends in Red RiverOakport, MN (WDAY-TV) -- A Borup, MN man is facing charges, accused of leading Clay County authorities on a chase that started near a clay contingency dike Friday morning… and ending in the Red River
Billy Kopperud, 33, is facing charges of felony fleeing and DWI.
Deputies patrolling Broadway in Oakport overnight say Kopperud tried to get down a blocked road and was denied access.
Sheriff Bill Bergquist says when a deputy questioned him about alcohol odors on his breath, Kopperud took off.
After a short chase, he got out of his vehicle and ran into the flooded Red River, where he was found hiding behind some trees.
Kopperud was arrested and taken to the Clay County Jail.
