Two new airboats were unveiled today. The boats will be on patrol in flooded areas by the end of the week.

Four deputies have been trained to operate the boats and Valley Water rescue will also help with patrols during the flood. The boats were made specifically for use in our area.

PAUL LANEY - Cass County Sheriff: “The way they've been designed is to be able to operate in ice conditions better than before. We found out in the 2009 flood these boats were torn up everyday. I mean had it not been for the capabilities right here of our highway department personel welding every night, we would have been with out boats after the first day.”

The boats and trucks to pull them were purchased with a grant of nearly 300 thousand dollars from the state.
