Morgan's Saturday had all the normal makings for a girl's first prom. She has the dress, and Mom, Dad and her sisters were her own personal crew of photographers.
A gift for her football star date: a boutonnière, always a task to pin on.
Family friend and date Austin Winnegge wants to give her the best gift he can.
"Let her have fun. Just to have a night where she doesn't have to think she has cancer. She can be like everyone else," Winnegge said.
Morgan's two types of cancer have become so advanced, doctors ceased treatment a few weeks ago. Just a sophomore, Morgan's school invited her to this year's prom, usually reserved for juniors and seniors.
Like any other set of parents, Morgan's might be more excited for the prom than she is. For them, it's a day of light, contrasting the darkness of an uncertain tomorrow.
"Every mom wants to see her daughter go to prom," Morgan's mom Julie Agnes said.
"Your emotions are really on the high end. It's something money can't buy. We have no idea what next year might bring," step-dad Rodney Agnes said.
A dress, loving parents and a good friend to lean on made it like any other prom, but it was a night Morgan Hayes could let go of cancer and embrace the normal.
"It feels pretty good that the whole community would do that for one person," Morgan said.
