Emergency levees getting built in Dwight, ND

Dwight, ND (WDAY TV) - Neighbors in Dwight North Dakota are dealing with some heavy duty levee building. The Army Corps is building emergency levees in the town.

The levees are mainly to protect the cities lift station against any potential flooding from the Wild Rice River.

ELAINE SCORE - Dwight Homeowner: “Its okay to be ready because you cant do it the last minute because the other year we had people out here filling in bags.”

The construction is set to wrap up this week. Starting tomorrow, the Army Corps of Engineers will draw down Lake Ashtabula near Valley City.

They'll bring it down one to two feet below it's approved maximum draw-down elevation of 12 - hundred 57 feet to make room for more water. It comes on the heels of the National weather services latest flood forecast.
