Forty-seven-year-old David Winter is charged with murder in the death of 75-year-old Lawrence Winter. Burleigh County State's Attorney Richard Riha (REE'-uh) says the retired pastor died Wednesday of head injuries and a stab wound to the chest. He says authorities have seized a metal flashlight and a letter opener.
Authorities say Lawrence Winter was found dead in the apartment he shared with his son, after David Winter called 911. Riha says he can't comment on possible motives.
David Winter could face life in prison if convicted. He plans to apply for a court-appointed attorney.
