DULUTH, Minn. (AP) — Prosecutors say no charges will be filed in a December hit-and-run that killed an 84-year-old Hermantown man.

The St. Louis County Attorney's office said Tuesday that while evidence gathered by police identified a man believed to be the driver, it can't be proved beyond a reasonable doubt that the driver knew he struck the pedestrian.

Laurence Sundquist was crossing a dark stretch of road to get his morning newspaper when he was struck and killed on Dec. 30. The Duluth News Tribune reports there were no eyewitnesses to the accident.
