(WDAY TV) - Drivers in Clay County might want to check road conditions before the head out on county roads. Many culverts are plugged causing several roadways to flood.

County Road 71 just north of Downer is completely washed out. Highway 52 near Baker has been reduced to one lane in parts due to overflowing ditches.

County officials say drivers need to be extra cautious when driving through and around flooded roadways.

BILL BERGQUIST - Clay County Sheriff: “You know what happens, it looks like shallow water, but what you way not know is the road underneath it is washed out and that is starting to happen.”

Coming up tonight, WDAY-6 reporter Bill Schammert visits with a homeowner whose nearby shop now sits in more than two-feet of water due to the recent overland flooding.
